Playing against Poker Rocks

The name sounds intimidating. The “Rock,” they call him, the epitome of stillness and patience. Zen, calm and collected like a Hindu Cow. And then you start to understand how he operates.

While the name sounds good, these poker players are actually quite simplistic creatures, and are very easy to play against. It’s counter productive, but what you do is simply don’t play against them.

These guys do well by just sitting there. Hand after hand the fold, and fold and fold, and when they do finally wake, they only win by hoping someone really loose calls them and then they show down their high pocket pair, or the high board pairing.

Otherwise, they’re totally quiet. And much like a rock, totally boring to play poker against.

You’ll see the difference in the rocks and solid poker players because of the money that flies around them. Good players are active, they look for ways to get more money from the bad players, but they also play with the good ones.

But the rocks, well, they need two things in order to make any money. They need a great hand so they’ll actually play, and they need a noob or a really loose player willing to sacrifice himself to the might that is the rock’s hand. Without the bad player, the losing player to play against them, the rocks have no other source of income.

So you’re strategy in these situations is simple. You don’t play with them when you can get out of it. Hence, you don’t help fund their rock habits. And you simply wait for the blinds to wear them down to the point of defeat, while you’re concentrating on taking money away from the other players.

See, you don’t have to beat the rock one on one, you just have to collect more money than him from the other players.

A simple design, is overcome by a simple strategy.
