A proper warm up prepares your body for the rigorous work in the future. You should spend at least five to ten minutes warming up. Warm up activities involve stretching, jogging in place, and performing an activity at a slow pace. The main reason people warm up before exercise is to prevent injuries. You should also cool down after work outs. A cool down normally lasts from ten to fifteen minutes. A cool down allows your heart rate and breathing to return to its normal state. Failing to cool down can result in dizziness and blackouts.
